Online Film Premiere of Digitally Restored “Special Therapy” on June 6th 2020

The upcoming free screening will mark two important anniversaries: it is scheduled for June 6th, the date of the official Yugoslav Film Archive Day and the anniversary of Vip mobile. The digitally restored version of the film will be presented in a live-screening event starting at 7 PM on the Facebook pages of the Yugoslav Film Archive ( and Vip mobile (, allowing the viewers to enjoy the top quality image and sound of the film that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival exactly four decades ago.

The social drama laced with dark humor, written by Dušan Kovačević, was superbly brought to life by a stellar cast of Serbian acting legends: Ljuba Tadić, Milena Dravić, Danilo Bata Stojković, Dušica Žegarac, Petar Kralj, Milan Srdoč, Radmila Živković, Bora Todorović, Pavle Vuisić, Vladan Živković.

The gripping, metaphorical story of an authoritarian doctor and his patients, alcoholics on compulsory treatment, was produced by Centar Film and Dan Tana Productions.

Along with numerous awards at Yugoslav festivals, the film received a Golden Globe nomination in the category of Best Foreign Film in 1981, and Milena Dravić won the Best Supporting Actress award in Cannes.

The Vip Kinoteka project started out with the restoration of “Who’s Singing Over There?” (“Ko to tamo peva?), a cult film by Slobodan Šijan, and a gala premiere in the presence of cast and crew members in December 2017. Even during the state of emergency, the Yugoslav Film Archive and Vip mobile continued their work on this project of exceptional importance for Serbia’s film heritage. In April 2020, more than 2,000 people watched the first online premiere of another film directed by Slobodan Šijan, “Strangler Vs. Strangler” (Davitelj protiv davitelja).

After the digital restoration, the films were screened in front of large audiences in more than 20 cities, and the 16th work of art that was digitally restored as part of the project - ”Special Therapy” - will be screened online, in accordance with the emergency measures taken against the coronavirus epidemic.
