Vip mobile d.o.o. is a private mobile operator, the owner of the third mobile telephony license in Serbia for GSM and UMTS networks and exclusive partner of Vodafone in Serbia. It is a member of Telekom Austria Group, which caters for more than 18.9 million satisfied mobile users across eight countries in the region. It is recognized as a leader in innovations for it continually develops new technologies and services and is the first one to introduce them into the market.
On December 1, 2006, the Telekom Austria Group, after serious research and analysis of the Serbian telecommunications market, became the owner of the third mobile telephone license in Serbia, through a payment of € 320 million plus one euro. Considering the great potential of the Serbian telecommunications market, the Telekom Austria Group has planed to invest up to 570 million euro in its first four years of operations, including the 320 million euro it spent on acquiring its operating licence in Serbia in 2006. This makes Vip mobile the biggest Greenfield investment in Serbia so far.
Vip brand was launched on June 6th, 2007 and the sales of the first SIM cards in 16 Vip own stores in the biggest cities of Serbia started on June 11th, 2007. We are very proud of the fact that we succeeded in building a new operator on the Serbian market in just six months, because the average time for the start-up in other countries was 11 months.
In three years of operations, Vip mobile invested EUR 264.3 million of capital expenditures in network roll-out, purchase and implementation of the latest IT equipment, opening of own shops, education of employees and marketing activities (EUR 99.4 million in 2007, EUR 92.8 million in 2008 and EUR 72.1 in 2009). By offering a real alternative to customers in terms of quality service and prices, Vip mobile had 1.153.900 active subscribers and held a market share of 12% at the end of 2009.
