The German team triumphed in a thrilling final of the European championship in beach volleyball at the Strand beachThe CEV European Championship – Novi Sad Masters 2012, organized by the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and Vip mobile company, ended today after an exciting final match in which the German duo Thomas Kaczmarek/Alexander Walkenhorst defeated the Czech duo Jan Hadrava/Robert Kufa with the result 2-0 (21-16, 21-18), thus ending the tournament without a single defeat. Third place was taken by the Spanish team Marcos/Garcia.
The new CEV Masters champions won a prize money of EUR 5.000 and a total of 600 points on European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) ranking list. The runner-up team won a prize of EUR 3.750 and 540 points, while the third-placed team goes home with EUR 2.625 and 480 points. Vip mobile provided a total prize fund of EUR 25.000 for this tournament.
After a five-day sports spectacle, on the hot sand of the Strand beach, a final award ceremony was held, where representatives of the European Volleyball Confederation, the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, Vip mobile and City Greenery Novi Sad handed over medals, trophies and checks to the best teams.
In this year’s European Championship, colors of Serbia were defended by four teams. Stefan Basta and Igor Tesic have achieved the best result in their careers winning the seventh place in the Main Draw and 300 points on CEV ranking list.
After a successfully organized CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship Serbian Masters 2011 and two CEV Challenger tournaments in 2009 and 2010 by the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and Vip mobile company, Serbia and Novi Sad were once again hosts of one of the four reputable CEV tournaments.
"We appreciate the trust given to us by the European Volleyball Confederation and we believe that we have managed to fulfill all expectations in terms of quality of the tournament. Having a partner as Vip mobile, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and great audience such as we have here in Novi Sad, beach volley has a bright future in Serbia”, said Aleksandar Boricic, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.
"In the year when we are celebrating our fifth birthday, we are proud because this amazing sport developed in Serbia alongside us and we have jointly managed to position our country as an inevitable place when it comes to beach volleyball and any other prestigious CEV tournament. Our wish is to popularize this attractive sport among the youngest, and that is why, once again, we have organized a beach volleyball school run by Vanja Grbic. This season, in Novi Sad we had more than 350 little ones – future champions”, added Andreas Graf, Member of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer, Vip mobile.
This season of beach volley continues with tournaments in Kladovo (July, 13–15.), Bac (August, 3-5.), Backa Palanka (August, 10-12.), and then we are back in Novi Sad (August, 17-19.). The final tournament of the National Championship in beach volleyball will be held in Belgrade from August, 31st and 2 September, 2nd when we will have new male and female Serbia champions.
